The country ‘ will be the first to suffer ’ if a war with NATO breaks out, says top Russian diplomat.
“ Since they’re our neighbors, if, God prohibit there’s some escalation, they will be the first to suffer, ” Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s endless representative to transnational associations in Vienna, told Russian state- possessed news agency RIA Novosti in an interview published Thursday.
Finland joined NATO in April this time, getting the alliance’s 31st member, in response to Russia’s full- scale irruption of Ukraine. Finland shares a 1,340- kilometer border with Russia, the longest of any NATO member. Ulyanov also hit out at Finland’s decision to subscribe a Defense Cooperation Agreement with theU.S. in December, giving American colors access to Finnish bases and allowing theU.S. to store military outfit on Finnish soil.
“ This is formerly a serious challenge, ” he said. Finland this month temporarily closed its land border with Russia in response to a large number of settlers and shelter campaigners crossing it. Helsinki has indicted Russia of being behind the affluence, which the Kremlin denies.
